You’ve already seen the original map of Dagenthir from 1997 in my last post… it wasn’t bad for the tools we had available back in 1996 or so, if I say so myself.
Now that I’ve started working on the game again though, I’ve found mapmaking tools that easily put anything we had back then in the shade.
I’d like to point out two of them in particular:
- Inkarnate, which I am using to create the new map of the world of Dagenthir, and probably some city and other maps as well. They have a great free version available, and a very affordable paid plan that adds incredible new possibilities. Is it perfect? No! Is it amazing? Yes!
I can only recommend Inkarnate in both its free and paid forms. - Watabou, a whole website full of free tools to generate cities, dungeons, and a lot more. Apparently it all started as an experiment or college project, but, while the tools aren’t perfect, it is one of the best collection of tools I have encountered to get you started with some rough and ready ideas.
Thank you to the creators of these tools! You managed to rekindle my passion, and you are making my life right now a lot easier!
